Tablet art at Modern Jago

Modern Jago is Microsoft's new space in Shoreditch for designers, developers and artists. We run and host events and open the space for folks to come down and co-work. Want to find out more about the space? You can have a chat to us on Twitter or Facebook, or find us in a bunch of other places.

Collaboration is a key part of everything that goes on at Modern Jago, whether that’s pairing app designers with app developers or working with Nokia and Samsung to showcase their latest Windows 8 ready devices. Modern Jago has also helped bridge the gap between artists and creative’s who are simply looking for a place to play, which is precisely how we met Paul Kercal.

Paul is a writer, a graphics teacher, a youth worker and if that isn’t enough, Paul is one of a growing group of artists making images and animations on a range of tablet and screen based devices.

After getting in touch with us on Twitter, Paul paid a visit to Modern Jago to spend an afternoon (whilst sitting in a comfy arm chair) playing around with Windows 8 devices such as the Surface and Samsung 700T. Using the creative platforms Sketchbook and Fresh Paint, Paul spent 3 hours playing at Modern Jago, creating something really rather beautiful. Take a look…

If you’d like to see more of Paul, he’s talking about the role of tablet art in education at the BETT show at ExCeL on February 2nd 2013 or you can find him tweeting over here.

If you’re a fellow tablet artist, Windows 8 app developer, designer or a good old fashioned Windows fanboy, Modern Jago is open to co-working and play sessions on Monday’s and Tuesday’s every week. If, like Paul you’ve got the urge to create something beautiful or see what opportunities there are for you, get in touch.
